Off-Platform Booking Policy

This policy applies to any vacation rental or hotel booked on any Expedia Group brand.


Summary


This policy applies to everyone who uses our platform to offer or book lodging – including vacation rental hosts, hotel partners, and travelers. Our platform cannot be used to find or discuss a reservation and then take that reservation or payment off-platform to avoid paying compensation or fees to us. 


What is not allowed


  • Asking, encouraging, or agreeing to move a reservation or payment off our platform, except in limited circumstances (see below). 
  • Canceling or modifying a reservation or payment schedule to reduce or avoid paying us compensation or fees. This includes reconciling a reservation in a way that misreports dates stayed, charges, or amounts owed.  
  • Offering or accepting discounts, credits, or other incentives in exchange for booking or paying off-platform.  

Additionally, Vrbo vacation rental hosts must not:

  • Communicate outside of Vrbo’s messaging platform until after a reservation is confirmed. 
  • Include links, QR codes, buttons, or contact details that are intended to redirect guests away from Vrbo. 

What is allowed


  • Directly collecting certain types of fees that cannot be paid through our platform (such as incidentals for hotels and optional fees for vacation rentals) or taxes where required by law.  
  • General marketing (for example, opt-in mailing list offers) that is not used to move an active reservation or payment off-platform and that travelers have expressly agreed to receive. 
  • Certain integrated vacation rental property managers may send a confirmation or payment link after a guest completes checkout on Vrbo.

Enforcement


If we are made aware of a possible violation of this policy, we will investigate and take appropriate action, including suspension or termination.  

 

If you are a vacation rental host or hotel partner, we may charge or withhold amounts equal to the compensation or fees that would have applied if the booking had been completed on the platform.  

 

Off-platform bookings are ineligible for our benefits and support.
